Yesterday was the last day with cousins in town. Last night we lit fireworks, sparklers, played soccer, had a bonfire and ate Thai food in our backyard (which now has absolutely no live grass). Then all nine boys ran wild through the neighborhood having Nerfwars. No one called the cops. Whew.

Tomorrow I'll pull the FUN card from the Intention box and replace it with WORK or CALM. : )

I'm holding on to this idea of "fun" beyond the seven days, because I'm already feeling premature panic (and nostalgia) about how fast the summer is going. Even today, when I have to spend the whole day in meetings, or the week I have to serve jury duty, I want to hold on to the idea of finding the "fun" - it will help me feel like I'm really experiencing every minute of summer, instead of feeling like it's slipping through my fingers like sand!

Hi, Ann - I really enjoyed the party, and introduction to the Intention Box. I've been using my box since the party - and love it! I set my intention each morning, and I find it brings a "pause" right away in the day, helps me to prioritize and focus. Sometimes, the intentions have been "substantive" (i.e. - clean those old files off my work desk) and sometimes the intentions have been "for me" (i.e. - it's Sunday - hit the beach!). Either way - I've found the box is becoming a ritual in my morning ... something to look forward to with my coffee, before reading the paper. Take care!

I was inspired by Ann's thought about "allowing" fun into the day. I took that to heart and found that allowing fun in was not all that hard. In fact, I even had some fun things take priority over a few "shoulds." This was freeing and inspiring.

I DID find fun this week and in many more places than I thought…I love the idea of just being open to it happening. For some reason that thought opens my eyes to the opportunities more than usual. Last night I put aside all my to-do's (that I REALLY wanted to get done) and, instead, had a great time playing "Life" with my youngest son....the high point of my day and definitely fun. My intention for the remainder of the summer is to do that more often--to live in the moment and put the worries/focus on my own tasks aside.

My kids and I decided to have the intention together this week to have fun no matter what we are doing. I wanted them to focus on having fun even if we were doing things that they may not consider a fun activity. My daughter and I rode our bikes to the grocery store and had fun figuring out how to bring home a watermelon. We raced home on our bikes with a watermelon on my back. While clearing the table last night, we got side tracked into a tickle fight. I laughed so hard my stomach hurt. I can't wait to see what the rest of the week's mundane errands and chores bring....

fun is my middle name....but the first day was not....i had a cloud over me....my energies were too focused to "have fun" that i was frozen and cranky. so i regrouped yesterday..took some deep breathes and blew that cloud away! and low and behold...i walked into a breakfast meeting and literally the first few people that i greeted said, "fun k.t. is here!". i about cried....this exercise is such a realization for me that my attitude is paramount in all that i am and do.

For mid-week inspiration, I thought I'd share how I'm approaching FUN this week with my Intention Box.

The FUN card is tucked in the special flap. I then attached a Post-it that says "I see myself allowing." Here's why: after the end of the school year rush, an intention to create fun drained my energy. Felt like another thing on my to-do list. So, I realized what I most need is simply to relinquish control and allow for fun. That's my intention.

Okay, now for my "progress." Monday was nice. A few surprises and a few choices led to small moments of fun. My awareness added a sweetness to those moments. Yesterday did not have a FUN factor (I was too busy getting things 'done'), so this morning I decided to re-visualize myself ALLOWING fun to find me during the day. I can't say enough about the power of visualizing. I immediately felt myself relaxing into the possibilities of making space for fun, no matter how busy the day. If you haven't tried visualizing, please do. It's powerful.

That's it. Galloping off into the day, I go. But after using my Box this morning, I feel grounded in the possibility that a little fun is going to come my way. Perhaps when I least expect it.

Instead of having lunch at the kitchen table today, I set a lawn chair in the shade of our apple tree. I felt like I was in the country.
