Enjoy today

Is there a particular topic you’re focusing on right now?  Something to help you transition from the school year to summer, or to help you enjoy the day?

Ann, remember last year when you shared about your boys writing down their summer wish list? That really inspired me, so I asked my kids to write their summer wish list too. Here we are one year later. After breakfast this morning, on the first day of summer vacation, they made their lists again. Then, we got busy cleaning and scrubbing the house. We turned down playdates. It was hard work and I felt like the wicked stepmother, but they did an extraordinary job. I told them how proud I was and paid them 5bucks each and took them out for icecream after the softball game. Tomorrow it will feel so good to get up in a clean house and start working to make our summer wish list a reality! I’ve got to make my own list too! Thanks again for all your inspiration!!

At a time of the year that is always overwhelming for a junior high teacher (finals, grades due, packing up the classroom, etc), combined with the thick of two children’s soccer seasons (including games in Wisconsin!), it can be easy to slip into total survival mode. Having the intention box in my bedroom provides me with the visual, tangible reminder that this is exactly when I need to live intentionally. My work with the box is very, very simple right now - three deep breaths as I hold the “seed” in my hand, and a visualization of finding the gifts in the moments, even when things are crazy. I’m always amazed at how quickly I’m rewarded for those few moments of intention-setting. Today, it was the simple routine of taking a hot shower that suddenly felt like a gift. A friend told me the other day that she’s always inspired by how present I seem in my day to day life, and I know that taking those moments with my intention box in the morning is part of my ability to do more than survive the chaos - I feel like I’m thriving!

i’ve been focusing on one intention at a time. for the last few weeks it has been SIMPLICITY. the best part about this is the constant uttering of the word….in everything i am doing and saying and feeling…i constantly am thinking of my current intention. i find it calming. i feel more focused. i feel more alive and present. i never know when my next intention will be chosen…i am trying to listen to myself and know when the intention has completed itself for the time being. if you are open to the wonders of the intention box..it is truly life changing.
